Course information
The Street Talk Defensive Driving course allows drivers to reduce the amount of time they are required to hold a Restricted Class 1 (Car) licence from the mandatory 18 months down to 12 months.
The course is made up of 5 different sections:
- Risk perception
- Risk management
- Self-reflection
- Decision making
- Goal setting & monitoring
The course has been developed by the New Zealand Transport Agency with the needs of young drivers in mind. This course aims to address the specific challenges and requirements that young drivers face on the roads, providing them with tailored knowledge and tools to navigate various driving situations safely.

Schedule, pricing & location
The courses are conducted at our Upper Hutt training facility on a monthly basis. Our next course will take place on the following four dates, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

- Monday 13th, July
- Thursday 16th, July
- Monday 20th, July
The course is priced at $195 (including GST) and includes:
- Four classroom sessions
- One-on-one practical session on the road with a driver trainer.
